Castles I have visited
Note: My definition of ‘castle’ here is loose, and includes everything from pristine norman keeps, pele towers, promontory forts, Roman camps, city walls (e.g., Berwick-upon-Tweed, Chester) through to iron age earthworks and vaguely discernable lumps and bumps found using old OS maps. I keep clear of palaces or faux castles that are actually the creaking homes of rich people who need the money from punters (there are quite a number of these around the royalist Scottish borders, for example).
